The affairs of ANUG were conducted and managed by a 20 member council. To achieve its objectives, the Association organises or co-organises academic, sport, games, social and recreational activities for our alumni. Conducting Academic Activities In addition to co-organising sizable and grand academic forums, we also conduct a series of talk featuring world renowned scholars. The event is held regularly or yearly. Promoting Chinese Culture The Association raised S$ 1.92 million in 1997 for NTU to set up ‘Tan Lark Sye Professorship in Chinese Language and Culture’ in commemoration of Mr Tan’s great contribution to education. Mentoring and Inspiring the Young In 1995, we, together with other likeminded entities, raised S$ 50,000 for NTU Students Union Fund during the grand celebration of the 40th anniversary of the founding of Nantah and 4th Nantah Global Reunion. In each of 1997 and 2000, the Association contributed S$ 15,000 to NTU to form and fund two gold awards for outstanding graduating students, one from music graduates of NIE and another from M.Sc. graduates of Nanyang Centre for Public Administration. Alumni Connect, Singapore and Overseas To foster closer ties among our alumni here and overseas, ANUG organises yearly a wide spectrum of activities, including recreational, festive gathering, cultural shows and karaoke sessions. Since the inception of the First Global Nantah Alumni Reunion held in Toronto in 1992, ANUG has been actively encouraging our local alumni to participate in every global reunion. We also hosted the 4th Global Reunion in 1995 in Singapore with a record turnout of more than 6,000 participants. Thereafter ANUG organised the 50th, 55th and 60th anniversary of the formation of Nantah in 2005, 2010 and 2015 respectively. The anniversary events included concert, golf tournament and gala dinner.
